THE SYRACUSAN METROPOLIS

The Syracusan Orthodox Catholic Apostolic Church, otherwise known as the Syracusan Catholic Apostolic Church, or the Syracusan Metropolitanate or Syracusan Church, is the proper continuation of the Ancient Church of Rome in Syracuse.

Its foundation being primarily attributed to Saint Simon Peter the Apostle on his apostolic journeys of evangelization, the Syracusan Church was subjugated to the Church of Rome. This is also why the church is sometimes called the Church of Roman Syracuse. From the administration of this church in the first few centuries of Christianity to the present day, this Petrine church garners its historic distinctiveness following the wrongful deposition of Saint Eustathius the Great of Antioch.

The Syracusan Orthodox Catholic Apostolic Church—being autocephalous—is governed by a collaborative Apostolic Synod of Syracuse. Among this synod's membership, the Bishop of Roman Syracuse—or the Ecumenical Metropolitan of Syracuse—is seated as first among equals in this church. Throughout the Ancient Orthodox Catholic Apostolic Church, however, he is seated as second among equals.

The Syracusan Orthodox Catholic Apostolic Church has defined its doctrines through the upholding of the Council of Nicaea which Saint Eustathius participated in, in addition to the Ancient Orthodox Catholic Apostolic Statute, and those subordinate canons and decrees of the Great and Holy Apostolic Church of Jesus the Christ. It is guided and protected by the Holy Spirit, and so protected from falling into heresy, as other members of the Ancient Orthodox Catholic Apostolic Church also hold. All beliefs of the church are based on the Holy Bible and Holy Tradition, which have been collectively called the deposit of faith. Formal worship, termed the Antiochian Liturgy or Divine Liturgy of Saint Clement, is regulated by church authority, with the Great Sacrament—the Eucharist, or Holy Communion—being central in worship.
